Tartu is the second largest city of Estonia, often considered the intellectual centre of the country, especially since it is home to the nation's oldest and most renowned university.  This university was founded in 1632 by Gustavus II Adolphus during the Swedish rule.

The Art Museum, which is the oldest museum in Estonia, was founded in 1803 and was filled with objects to illustrate lectures and develop the artistic taste of the students. This exhibition is for artists of estonian origin living and working abroad.

Kastellaanimaja Gallery is situated in a fine mid 19th century wooden building in the park of Kadriorg. The park of Kadriorg is a favourite spot for the inhabitants of Tallinn for taking their weekend stroll and popping in to the museums like the ultra modern KUMU the Art Museum of Estonia and the baroque Palace of Kadriorg, to name a few.

Artist Anders Åberg began to build Mannaminne (Living memory) in 1980 on a wooded site in Nordingrå, an attempt to bring in the world, to make it a  meeting place for ideas and dreams, a place for memories. Together with his wife Barbro, friends and a team of carpenters, he has created and developed Mannaminne, which today consists of more than 60 buildings of cultural and historical value. The Cable Factory was built during 1939-1954 and was at that time the largest building in Finland. In the 1960s Nokia set up production here until 1980s when they shut down the plant. During a transitional period the empty spaces were rented out to artists amongst others and there were serious plans to demolish at least parts of the factory. The name of Rocca Flea derives from the nearby river Flebeo, later called Flea, and it appears already in the 12th century documents. Damaged during many conflicts, the fortress was restored by one of the most powerful Roman Emperors Frederick II around 1242 and later several times renovated by for example Biordo Michelotti, the lord of Perugia.
